When Should I Call Pest Control?
66You’ve seen it before, in movie scenes and episodes of your favorite TV sitcom. Some homeowner stands with hands on waist, taking pride in their beautiful home and garden, when suddenly, the ground almost seems to be boring a hole in itself. Eyebrows arch and panic slowly reflects over the resident’s eyes, he gets on all fours and investigates the curious anomaly. It’s those darn gophers again. Okay, maybe you don’t have a gopher problem. It could be a termite problem or some other kind of Starship Trooper-worthy bug whose phylum or scientific name you have no time to google because you’re busy running amok with slipper in hand, ready to smash the life out of the little bugger (no pun intended).
Often times we like to do things ourselves because, let’s face it, we’re all trying to save a buck or two. If you’re dealing with pests like mosquitoes or roaches, it’s nothing a little spritzing spree with your favorite bug spray can’t handle. If you feel that you need a stronger solution, then the chances that your garden center can help you out are certain. But if you are not too adept at handling pests in your home and garden and don’t quite know what to do with the liquid pesticides, then perhaps the task is too big for you. Pest control may require handling of liquids and gasses and that can be pretty lethal when not managed properly. So if there’s something entomologically (or otherwise) strange going on in your home or garden, then perhaps it’s time you called for professional pest control to come in and help you. A pest control professional has sufficient knowledge and is well able to identify other pests that may be lurking in your home, behind your walls and through your ventilation system. What may look harmless and common to you may turn out to be a poisonous parasite after all. There are pests that require more advanced equipment and solutions that are not accessible to the regular homeowner—or at least is not advisable to handle unless you’re a professional. Bed bugs, for example, are a formidable foe that have been known to cause health problems—most common of which concerning the respiratory system. Hiring professional pest control may be the wiser precaution for you and your family without having to wait for health complications to lead to ridiculous hospital bills—but it may also be a long-term commitment so be sure to do your research and read the fine print before putting your John Hancock on the dotted line.
