You see them in movies, on TV shows and on home-shopping channels. Hot tubs have always been a symbol of luxurious rest and relaxation. Most people think that this kind of luxury is a privilege that is relegated and left for the rich and famous. But you will be encouraged to know that this is no longer something that only the affluent can indulge in. If you are fighting to shush the voice in your head telling you what a waste of money purchasing and installing a hot tub is in your home, fret not. There actually are legit reasons and benefits to getting a hot tub in your home. At the end of the pros and cons (when you have won the argument and the hot tub has been installed and already up and running), every member of the family will thank you for your genius foresight—with a pat on the back to boot!

Spa resorts have become famous bastions of distressing and relaxation. A lot of personal care products have begun riding the “spa experience” bandwagon in order to sell their products because they understand the benefits of taking care of your body and mind. You don’t need to sign up for a gym membership to use their hot tub (which in reality is a frighteningly efficient breeding ground for bacteria) or a spa resort with steep rates. You can have your very own nook of relaxation by having a hot tub installed in your home. It’s well known to everyone that taking a dip in a hot bath relaxes the body—this takes no genius to figure out. Hot water helps in your blood circulation and eases pains in your muscles and joints. The body’ initial reaction to hot water is to get the heart to pump blood harder to the surface where it seeks to be cooled. The body temperature rises, blood pressure increases for a moment as the body adjusts to the temperature of the water, blood vessels dilate and this helps the blood circulate throughout the body more seamlessly. When your body feels hot, it starts to sweat and perspire and this is what gets rid of toxins in your system.

Some doctors have also encouraged people who have trouble sleeping to soak in a tub with water that’s 39 degrees Celsius in temperature a couple hours prior to bedtime. The relaxing sensation of the heated water primes your body for rest. When you’re in water, you weigh less and this helps alleviate the stress on your heart, thereby slowing down your heart rate into a pace that helps you drift off to sleep (but don’t nod off in the tub!).

If you are an athletic person and maintain an active lifestyle, then the first three paragraphs of this article may have been moot as most athletes sing praises about the benefits of soaking in a hot bath. The heat in the water helps loosen tight muscles, ease aches and pains that come in the aftermath of a great workout. It also helps keep your joints flexible and strong.

Aside from the health benefits, getting a hot tub provides endless fun and entertainment for the family. Get ready for more family time as your children will no longer be asking permission to go and hang out at their friend’s house because now they have their very own hot tub at home. This time, their friends will want to come over and hang out which means you get to keep tabs on your kids while they have fun in the safety of your home. Your social circle may also expand even more as friends and neighbors start hinting at hot tub parties in your backyard. Awkward as it this suggestion may be, but if you’re a risk taker and you want to go on a limb in impressing your boss, try inviting him and his wife over for some hot tub and bubbly with you and your wife (first make sure you’re chummy on that level with your superior). Or if you want to make it a family affair, invite your boss with his wife and children for a ot tub and picnic at your home. This ups the ante on any typical backyard barbecue party (or any party from now on!). So what are you waiting for? You know that out there somewhere is a hot tub with your name on it!
